Uncover the rich identity of Teotihuacan as you journey through both its ancient heritage and modern way of life. By spending time with a local Teotihuacan family, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how traditional foods, like the modern tortilla and edible cactus, have remained an essential part of everyday life for over two thousands years. This authentic experience provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture, while also witnessing the warmth and hospitality of a typical middle class Mexican home, offering a true sense of community and daily living in Teotihuacan.
Another unique aspect of this experience is the visit to a lesser known modern art studio located within the archaeological site, where renowned artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo dedicated significant time researching ancient pre Hispanic mural techniques. Their exploration of materials such as cochinilla, a natural pigment, adds a fascinating layer of artistic history to the tour. This hidden gem allows you to connect with the legacy of these iconic artists, further enriching your understanding of the intersection between ancient culture and modern art.
Throughout the tour, your guide whether an archaeologist, historian, or a specialized expert will provide in depth knowledge, making the experience even more insightful and engaging. Whether delving into the history of Teotihuacan's ancient past or exploring its vibrant cultural present, this tour offers a unique and comprehensive look at one of Mexico's most celebrated regions.

Truly amazing place. The outside approaching the ave is wonderfully decorated and inviting. The flowers and candles lead you down into the cave which extends the them and vibrance. The lighting in the cave amplifies the environment. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful and attentive. Visiting around Dia de los Muertos is highly encouraged.

The place is amazing, completely decorated with flowers, candles and traditional Mexican skulls. The food was good, well served and we'll presented. The service could improve: the restaurant was not full and we had to call for their team several times to be attended. Still a great experience

We were in Mexico City exploring and decided to visit the famous Teotihuacán pyramids. After a long morning of walking and taking in the sights, we stumbled upon La Gruta a restaurant we had heard so much about and decided to give it a try. The experience was incredible! The restaurant is located right within the pyramid compound, so you can explore and then enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner just steps away from history. We went for brunch around noon, and everything was amazing from the ambiance to the food and drinks. I highly recommend trying the Gruta mole by far the best mole I’ve ever had! The café de olla was exceptional too.

Top restaurant. Loved the service location and food. Not cheap though, expect to pay 35-40 EURO per person not including wine. The service was attentive and in Spanish. The grasshoppers also quite delicious. I recommend the seats not down but a bit higher where ist quieter.

Dining in a Sacred Cave – A Memorable Experience, Even If the Food Falls Short Have you ever dined in a natural cave? After exploring the majestic Teotihuacan pyramids, we visited La Gruta, a restaurant like no other. Set inside an ancient cave, this place is not just a restaurant—it’s an experience. The cave is considered sacred by indigenous people, believed to be a temple dedicated to the fire god. As a beautiful gesture, guests are offered a candle to light at the entrance—like being welcomed into someone’s ancestral home. The ambiance is truly magical and the service was excellent—our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. However, while the setting is unforgettable, the food left much to be desired. It’s overpriced and, unfortunately, doesn’t match the uniqueness of the environment in either taste or quality. Still, how many times in life do you get to enjoy a meal inside a natural cave steeped in cultural and spiritual meaning? For the experience alone, it’s worth a visit—just manage your expectations when it comes to the food.
